apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#12 Henry's Multi-Hued Hideaway

Name: Henry, six-months old
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Why I chose these colors for the nursery:
I used one of my favorite color combinations, blue, green and orange,
to create a cheerful bedroom for my son. He does need to sleep in
there so the brightly painted walls are broken up with calm, creamy
white ones. The playful colors pull together a hodgepodge of borrowed
and repurposed furniture.

Busy patterns and hopping bunnies hang over the changing table to keep
my son entertained. The fabric can be easily washed, changed and
rearranged. The crib mobile gets taken down at bedtime, making that a
peaceful corner. It looks like he likes it there.

Two Good Color Tips:
I put the bright colors on opposing walls to try to make this small
room feel larger.

This room only gets direct light in the mornings. The warm colors make
it feel sunny all day.

Color(s) and brand(s) of paint used in the room:
Sweet Orange, Pear Green, Jamaican Blue, Mayonnaise all Benjamin Moore

This room is off the hook... if my mom had taken the time to hook me up with a room like this my whole life might be different. Not that my mom did a bad job, I think I am ok. I am right?? =)

Plus that baby is just tooo cute. =) It wouldn't work without the baby as everyone here knows!

Very adorable. i like how you didn't just run out and buy everything new. It gives the room character.

Does anyone know where to get the shelf above the changer? It's great.

Super cute Henry by the way. Just adorable.

Thanks Modern Mama. The shelf is Duoplane CD holder that I got years ago. Turns out to be also a good size for diapers.

I love the fabric art piece above the changer, the crib bedding, the stuffed dog in the crib, and of course little Henry - so cute!

Hi Wishing Star. The tiger rug is extra special. My mom made it when she was pregnant with me. It was part of her nursery design for all three kids. Now I'm lucky enough to have it in Henry's room. Thanks for asking. I was regretting not giving her credit in the write up.

This room is so creative. There is nothing "typical" about it and it all works perfectly together.

Can you tell me where those white metal shelves came from? They would be perfect for our baby's room. Thanks!

I love this room (and baby of course). The "I Spy" on the wall is perfect in that space, and like others, I also am impressed by the use of complimentary colors for a calming effect. Good job!
