Good Question: Art Work that Lasts

GQ-kidsartworkforever.jpgCynthia e-mailed us and asks, "I have a drawing my daughter made and I'm completely in love with it. I want to save it somehow so that I can frame it and have it last forever, but I know once I put it in a frame and hang it up, the colors will start fading. What can you recommend besides color copying it? I tried and it just doesn't look as nice."

Good question, Cynthia.

There are many places that make children's artwork archival and ready for framing. We like The Kinder Studio because they offer a lot of choices, you can get your child's work framed and matted or even made into greeting cards, and the prices are reasonable. You can either e-mail a JPG or mail the original and The Kinder Studio will photograph the piece, scan it and print it onto canvas.

Have you done something like this with your child's artwork? Who can you recommend?

If you don't want to display the original, you could have a photo-finishing place scan it then make copies. It's not just a color copy. You can discuss with the lab what looks best.

Have it professionally scanned. You could then even have it printed and stretched onto canvas at any size.

You could put it behind that uv reflecting glass or whatever its called...that glass that keeps sunlight from fading the image.

Are you familiar with Artsonia? You can get all kinds of objects with your child's artwork on them. Check out my school's gallery at: http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=86762
